Roses are red.......

Roses are red, violets are blue, roses will help you......

Roses are one of the world most revered flowers. The variety of colors roses come in is substantial and we as humans we have assigned special connections with these colors and relationships. For instance red means romance, yellow friendship, pink admiration and so on.

However, Roses have been used throughout history for skin and health care. The most influential cultures at any certain time period used and benefited from the health effects of roses. According to an article entitled Pharmacological Effects of Rose Damascena (Boskabady, Shafei, Saberi & Amini, 2011) R. damascena as a decoction for a remedy for cough. This is one example of how Rose has been used for benefitting health.

A second example of its use is in the Iranian culture. Decoction of the flowers have a variety of benefits that include: abdominal and chest issues and discomfort, menstral bleeding, digestive problems and health issues involving inflammation as reported Mahboubi (2015).

There are many benefits one can derive from essential oils and plants essences. Franelos & Komini speak to some of these benefits in their article that's states "Literature review and most of the researches have shown that aromatotherapy causes various actions favorable for patients such as relaxation, reductions in anxiety, depression and fatigue, and improvements in quality of life via nervous, endocrine, immune, and circulatory systems, there for could be applied as a complementary therapy for people with anxiety symptoms" (2015). However alternatives medicine is not a cure and a physician should always be consulted espesiclly with serious health conditions.

My skinny on skin:

I'm a registered nurse and love taking care of others. My passions include natural was to maintain ones health if possible.

I have been doing a lot of reading and research on natural skin care. I have also been experimenting. Today's mixture includes:
pumpkin powder, brown rice flour, bentonite clay, lemon powder.

I mixed it up and applied it as a mask. Once it started to dry I could instantly feel my skin tightening up.  I then followed with a baking soda scrub. My skin feel baby soft.

Pumpkin is an awesome food for inside and out.

Found on  livestrong.com

Rich in Vitamins

Pumpkin is excellent for use on all skin types, but especially if your skin is damaged from environmental conditions such as overexposure to the sun. Pumpkin is rich in vitamin A, which soothes and softens your skin, and vitamin C, an antioxidant that can help to remedy damage produced by free radicals, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. Pumpkin facial masks, moisturizers and peels nourish your skin and promote the absorption of these nutrients.

Anti-Acne

If you suffer from acne, blemishes or frequent breakouts, your skin will benefit from pumpkin anti-acne products. Pumpkin contains the acne fighting vitamins E and T, more commonly known as torulitine. Pumpkin skin toners, peels and anti-acne masks promote healthier skin by fighting inflammation, reducing pore size, controlling excess oil and preventing the appearance of pimples, blackheads and blemishes. Try rubbing the fleshy side of a piece of fresh pumpkin on your face twice a day after washing for a natural blemish-fighting toner.

Essentail oils, again....

Okay, it's that season again: Flu, pneumonia, bronchitis, cough cold, ect......

First if you or your children are sick then realize that you have the responsibility to keep them home and not spread the germs.

Today I would like to talk about essential oils. So many people have issues with what is termed "Alternative Medicine". But plants and their byproducts have been on earth before humans. They are what makes up nature. In the bible time people used these same substances and survived.

Where did antibiotics come from?? Mold. Again nature.

Now, moving on. There are a lot of oil companies out there. You have to find one that is right for you. If you want to get caught up in what a few people tell you then go ahead. I have done a lot of research and every company has it pros and cons. SOOO I personally use doTERRA.

I have used some of the most inexpensive brands and some expensive ones. I have seen some benefits from each. But what I do know it that essential oils benefit the body. They are NOT cures but can help aid certain conditions. They do not replace medications, such as Synthroid. I have Hashimoto's hypothyroidism. I still take my prescribed medication because I need it for my body to function.

Essential oils are beneficial for many things. There are a couple blends that I would like to highlight.
On Guard: is dōTERRA®'s unique, proprietary blend formulated to support healthy immune function. Wild orange essential oil, combined with clove, cinnamon, eucalyptus and rosemary offer a fragrant, natural and effective alternative to synthetic options for immune support. On Guard, with its unique aroma, is one of our most versatile blends. It is also safe to use on counter tops, as a non-toxic way to cleanse surfaces, or to purify the atmosphere by diffusing. On Guard is superb for eliminating and controlling pathogens due to the potency of its constituents. For aromatic, topical, or dietary use.

If you are going to use essential oils as supplements then you MUST do your research into the brand and oil you are using. NOT all brands are recommended for dietary use and not all oils are recommended for dietary use.

Remember always discuss using supplements with your primary care physician. At least let them know what your taking them so they do not interact with your prescription medication.

Cinnamon
*Helps to regulate blood sugar. So individuals with diabetes can think about adding cinnamon to their diets.

   * lt has anticoagulant properties. Most people know this as "blooding thinning agent". Even though there is no su ch thing. "Blood thinner" don't really exist. Medications know as such, in reality, make chemicals in the blood work so that they are less sticky or break blood clots apart. So if your on "blood thinners" tell your doctor your taking cinnamon.

Peppermint:
Is used for the common cold, cough, inflammation of the mouth and throat, sinus infections, and respiratory infections. It is also used for digestive problems including heartburn, nausea, vomiting, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), cramps of the upper gastrointestinal (GI) tract and bile ducts, upset stomach, diarrhea, bacterial overgrowth of the small intestine, and gas. Lastly peppermint helps relieve headaches.

Pumpkin:
Pumpkin is know to benefit the body in over 100 ways with its vitamins and minerals. There are enzymed in pumpkin that work on the skin and make it look younver. Alpha-hydroxy is a natural fruit/vegateble acid found in pumpkin which help to slough off dead cells to reveal younger, fresher skin. There are products on the market that use pumpkin in their ingredients for facial masks but you can make your own with all-natural ingredients.

During this time of the year is it essential to keep ones health in tact, especially the respiratory system. Winter is a time of family, time off of work and relaxation. But sneaky "germs" do not take time off, and they love the winter season. Massage therapy is a wonderful way to maintain and improve ones health. Massage benefits to the respiratory system include:

Respiratory System
*Reduces respiration rate
*Strengthens respiratory muscles
*Decreases sensation of dyspnea
*Decreases asthma attacks
*Reduces laryngeal attacks
*Increases fluid discharge from lungs
*Increases pulmonary function

By reducing your respiratory rate your lungs do not have to work as hard to oxygenate your body which is done through profusion and gas exchange at the capillary level. By strengthening the muscles that work with your lungs helps so that your lungs will function at a higher capacity. By increasing the discharge or release of fluids from the lungs you will lessen the chance for bacteria or virus organisms to settle in your lungs to issues. This will help prevent dreaded respiratory infection which include pneumonia or bronchitis.

Asthma information:
Acute asthma attacks occur within 10 to 20 minutes after the initial exposure. The initial exposure for cats would either be the dander from the cat. It is caused by the release of chemical mediators from the mast cells that lead to inflammation. Mast cells respond to the irritant by releasing histamine that causes brochoconstriction. Bronchoconstriction causes: the airways to become swollen and the production of excess mucus. Massage therapy helps decrease astham attacks by helping to strengthen the lungs, reducing mucus build up and increasing pulmonary function.

Emphysema information:

Characteristics:

• Hyperventilation
• Vasoconstriction
• Pulmonary hypertension
• Jugular venous distension
• edema

Emphysema is a chronic pulmonary disease that is marked by the above symptoms. Massage therapy can benefit a person suffering from this disease by decreasing pulomaary hypertension and vasoconstriction. This usually leads to a person having an easier time breathing since there is less fluids in the lungs constriciting respirations.

So give your lungs a break and have a healthy respiratory winter season by booking your massage today. Don't forget your loved ones, give them the gift of massage with a gift certificate.

Ballon Mitral Valvotomy

A situation in my own family has inspired me to post this information. I hope you find it interesting:

Balloon mitral valvotomy
Balloon valvotomy is used to increase the opening of a narrowed (stenotic) valve. It is used for:

•select patients who have mitral valve stenosis with symptoms
•older patients who have aortic valve stenosis, but are not able to undergo surgery
•some patients with pulmonic valve stenosis
This balloon valvotomy procedure can be performed on the mitral, tricuspid, aortic or pulmonary valves.

How is a balloon valvotomy performed?

Balloon valvotomy is a non-surgical procedure performed in the cardiac catheterization laboratory by a cardiologist and a specialized team of nurses and technicians.

Long, slender tubes called catheters are first placed into blood vessels in the groin and guided into the chambers of the heart. The cardiologist then creates a tiny hole in the wall between the upper two chambers of the heart. This hole provides an opening for the cardiologist to access the left atrium with a special catheter that has a balloon at the tip.

The catheter is positioned so the balloon tip is directly inside the narrowed valve. The balloon is inflated and deflated several times to widen the valve opening. Once the cardiologist has determined that the opening of the valve has been widened enough, the balloon is deflated and removed.

During the procedure, the cardiologist may perform an echocardiogram (ultrasound of the heart) to get a better picture of the mitral valve.

What are the symptoms?
Many of the symptoms of mitral stenosis, such as shortness of breath and fatigue, result from a back-up of blood in the lungs. Other symptoms of mitral stenosis may include quick weight gain; weakness; dizziness; swelling in the ankles, feet and/or abdomen (edema); and/or heart palpitations (irregular heartbeat).

What causes mitral stenosis?
Mitral stenosis most commonly develops many years after a person has had rheumatic fever, although many patients diagnosed with mitral stenosis don’t recall ever having the illness. During rheumatic fever, the valve becomes inflamed. Over time, the leaflets of the inflamed valve stick together and become scarred, rigid and thickened, limiting its ability to open completely.
